London's Latest Trend...

Apologies for the lack of posting, I moved house then to top it off caught swine flu! Not usually one to follow trends you can imagine my disappointment at my body forcing me to follow the latest thing to sweep the circuit of London! Glamour has been at it's optimum with hoodies and tracksuit bottoms as my uniform for the past week. Due to this, my outfit choices for the past three days back at work have been of the highest standard. Structured mini dresses, silk playsuits, bare legs and ankle boots being the look de jour. During the move I have lost the cable to my camera so I can't actually show you my inspiring ensembles (very annoying!).

Instead I thought I would share my favourite fashion shoot from the mags that I have been glued to whilst being stuck indoors.

Power Surge, Harper's Bazaar (UK), Sept 09
All about acid brights worn over tight fitting black. Hoods were used and make up and hair were slick. Black, heavy framed sunglasses were the key accessory. The looks screams 80's, New York with a strong silhouette and the season's key craze- bold shoulders.

An inspiring way to infuse grown-up, colour blocking into your winter wardrobe.

Grace yourself...

With my love affair with all things extrovert and 80s fashion still going strong there was one icon I simply had to write about, that is the legendary Grace Jones. Jones became a successful model in Paris and New York as well as studying theater in her early years.

In the late 70s she landed her record deal. She became a muse to Any Warhol and the two frequented Studio 54.

Shot by Warhol 1986
She shifted her music in the direction of New Wave Music that was developing. With this came a dramatic visual makeover too. The make over was the work of stylist (and father of her child) Jean-Paul Goude. The look was androgynous, hard and severe. She was definitely a strong influence in the cross dressing movement of the 80's. Bold shoulders and cropped hair are key to her look.

The androgynous look

I am in love with her look and only wish I could pull off those outfits on an everyday basis!!

Enter The Dinner Dress

Absolutely loving the shoot entitled 'Enter The Dinner Dress' in the September issue of British Vogue. Shot by Javier Vallhonrat, the shoot is all about beautiful dresses. It includes all my favourite aspects of AW dressing. Embellishment, indulgent fabrics, brocade, jacquard and embroidery are key, all adorned with trinkets and treasures. The staple to the look? Wear with disregard, i.e dishevelled hair and a smudged eye for a casualness that oozes sex appeal and style.

Wednesday Fashion Fix...

I thought I would share my two (very different) outfit choices for today.
OUTFIT 1: Day at the office

Today's outfit was my own take on city chic. Slightly Chanel inspired with classic black and pearls. To give it an instant style update I added my fringed sandals and a studded belt. Don't forget the trademark red lipstick!

OUTFIT 2: Drinks with the boy in Shoreditch

Ok ok, so slightly over dressed for a Wednesday night!! I just fancied getting dressed up, plus we were going to Shoreditch so as the saying goes, when in Rome...

Stuck with the black theme from earlier, just added a little fur cape, chunky chain and a smile!

Hair today...Gone tomorrow!

I thought I would share my new (and very daring haircut)...

That's correct, the long hippy-esque locks have gone in favour of what I like to call a pixie crop with attitude! I had it done a week ago, but have only just found the time to upload the pics! I can't tell you what made me make the decision, or what inspired it but I am enjoying the new look....just need to get used to it!
