Rock Goddess...

Due to The Dead Weather currently being in London (apparently they are doing a free gig in Shoreditch tonight if you are around!) I thought I would dedicate a post to leading lady of the band Alison Mosshart. Mosshart, formally of The Kills, formed super group The Dead Weather early this year with Jack White (The White Stripes and The Raconteurs), Jack Lawrence (The Raconteurs) and Dean Fertita (Queens of the Stoneage). With rave reviews on their current tour they are definitely a band worth seeing and I won't be surprised if we see them sweep the world's major festivals next year.
Mosshart's style is second to none, eclectic, individual, rock 'n' roll but still feminine and chic (hard to put all that into one look huh?!)

5 Minutes with designer Calum Harvey...One to watch!

During London Fashion Week I met up-and-coming menswear designer Calum Harvey. Uber talented with the world at his feet, I had to get into the mind and soul of this young inspiration...

Calum is 21, originally from Laxey, Isle of Man, currently residing in Brixton, London. He started his creative path by studying Art & Design, then he went on to get his degree in Fashion Design at Ravensbourne and is now studying for his Master's in Menswear at Royal College of Art.
What made you decide you decide you wanted to get into the industry and when?
My Mother and Grandma were both extremely creative. Both knitted and their creations sold. My Grandma had her own boutique that sold her designs and offered a dress making service during the 60s. I was always surrounded by the creative attitude, I remember being interested in fashion from an early age, deciding I wanted to be a 'Fashion Designer' at infant school!
Where do you get your inspiration from?
EVERYWHERE! I remain receptive to lots of different things; architecture, nature, the news, litter. I find inspiration from non-fashion related sources. I think it keeps designs fresh and new and encourages collaborative work.

Calum's Graduate Fashion Week Show

Favourite designers?
Christopher Raeburn, Martin Margiela, Dries Van Noten, Burberry and Dior. I always look forward to seeing what they unveil each season.

Who is your style icon?
I used to look to Timmy Mallet for style guidance but now it's more the guy who sells The Big Issue outside Brixton's Sainsbury's! He's really stylish; fake fur, skinny black denims and a military bag.

Highlights of your career so far?
Meeting Nick Roberts, Head of Marketing at Mulberry and Kate Greenyer, Creative Director at Red or Dead, they are passionate about what they do. Travelling to Pearl Academy, Delhi, India on a fashion exchange trip. Showing at Graduate Fashion Week and winning the Textiles Award. I really appreciate being able to do what I want to do, I'm very lucky.

What's on your iPod right now?

Matronomy, Friendly Fires, Kylie, The Strokes, Kitsune Maison, Beyonce.

What are you guilty pleasures?
Where to begin! There has been a void in my life since The London Paper folded, slipping into comfortable habits like wearing plaid shirts and jeans everyday, Alexandre Burke, Eastenders...I'm going to stop now before it's too embarrassing!

What are your personal goals for the future:
To continue to learn about ethical issues within design and implement changes within the industry. I would like to work on my own unisex fashion label. I would like to gain experience at a high end menswear label like Van Noten or Marni! They are just some dreams...
Calum is definitely one to watch, I can't wait to see where his career and talent takes him...whichever way it goes it's sure to be paved with gold!

Today's Threads...

Love this jacket!!! It's only mine due to the generosity of my best friend's boyfriend (thanks Rory!) I added a feminine touch using pearls. A good mix of femininity and androgynous style.

London pics...

As per usual, I was out this weekend with my camera but this time trying to capture parts of London as apposed to the people!

Today's Threads...

All-in-one leotard, cropped vest (that once belonged to the boy until I found it and some scissors!), satin tux jacket and patent ankle boots...enough said really!

On The Street...

Once again I have been out and about, searching and hunting for the effortlessly cool, individual and down-right crazy!

Frieze Art Fair

This weekend I was one hell of a culture vulture! Stepping out of my comfort zone of Brick Lane and Shoreditch I visited Regents Park, London which played host to the Frieze Art Fair. More familiar with being surrounded by shabby chic, scene kids it was rather a nice change to be surrounded by sophisticated, European art buyers!

'Frieze Art Fair is the UK's most important art event and one of the world's most influential contemporary art fairs. It's a tightly selected presentation of the most forward-thinking galleries from around the globe.'
There were 165 galleries exhibiting work by over 1000 artists. Some odd, some beautiful, some confusing...yet all inspirational.

Gig Review: Deadmau5

Last night my ladies and myself headed out for a girlie night out to see uber talented and banging DJ, Deadmau5. The gig was held at Camden's The Roundhouse and was a great venue for the event. Deadmau5 (real name; Joel Zimmerman) is famed for his dark, progressive electro house mixing and has won critical acclaim from peers such as Armin Van Buuren and Tiesto, his skill and production is second to none and it's no surprise that Beatport has awarded him 'The Greatest DJ Ever' award two years running.

The set was electric and fully charged from the get go. He started on quite a trancey vibe and then ended on a pounding techno note. The trademark mouse head was worn throughout and he played a great mix of his famed track 'The Reward is Cheese' mixed with Daft Punk's Harder Better Faster Stronger.

It was a great gig and beat last time I saw him at Wireless 08 by a mile.

Today's Threads...

I thought I would share my Sunday outfit. Embellishment is key this season and I think I got the balance quite right today, sparkling yet not to Dynasty for a Sunday! I'm loving that this vintage jumper I bought two years ago is right on trend this season!
