Elephant hunting in the city...

I had the day off yesterday, (and what amazing weather- my luck was obviously in), so I decided to view the latest cultural experience to hit London; Elephant Parade. The largest outdoor art event ever recorded in London is here until July and showcases the best in innovative and original design. Artists, celebrities and fashion designers have produced their own designs for the elephants and over 250 of them have been scattered around London for an estimated audience of 25 million people. The pieces will be auctioned off in July in aid of the endangered Asian elephant.

Today's Threads; Maxed out

I've never been a fan of the maxi dress, they are just not my style. While I think they look perfectly beautiful on others they have always just been a touch to feminine for me...until now. All hail the jersey maxi. Forget silks, frills and boho prints, a plain jersey maxi is how I will rock this trend this summer. Black gives it a slight edge, (whilst keeping me looking slimmer- bonus) and it looks great with my cropped leather jacket. Possibly my favourite purchase this month.

Beside the seaside...

Went to visit mama Coco this weekend. She lives in the quaint town of Hastings, East Sussex. Hastings is a little seaside town on the south east coast which has it bad parts (but hey, doesn't everywhere?), but, the nice parts are delightful. The beach, the pier, the fisherman's huts, the vintage stores and the cobbled streets. We went for a little wander before lunch and stumbled upon too many photo opps not to take some snaps...

Something for the weekend?

It's Friday and if you're anything like me that means you are looking for some serious tunes to party to. Well look no further...DJ Rags, (better known to me as Raji-Baby) of Work It and Livin' Proof has released his monthly mix of hot tunes and phat beats.
Download it here for, as he puts it, 'an hour of uptempo/downtempo, hi-fi/low-fi, hip-hop, electronica, synthpop, dubstep, OKF, old school garage, rock and soul music.' So whatever your genre de jour is the wonderful Rags has something for you.
Check him out on the decks at Secret Garden Party, Lovebox and Glade festivals this year plus much, much, more.

Tyler Shields = Amazing

I have recently stumbled across the work of photographer Tyler Shields. His work is provocative, sexy, original, innovative and down right amazing. It fits into the genre of photography that I love and could literally gaze at all day.
Recently his work has been somewhat in the spotlight due to a photoshoot he did with Lindsay Lohan. The media have been up in arms as Lohan poses with a replica gun, smeared in (fake) blood wearing just lingerie. I for one don't find it shocking at all. It's art. There is nothing wrong with pushing boundaries in a creative sense. If these images were from Lohan's 'Last weekend' album on Facebook then perhaps we should be shocked but the images are not real, so what's the problem?

Anyhow it's not just the Lohan shoot that I love, it's all of his work. Visit his website here to view his portfolio, but prepare to spend an evening glued to your laptop.

I have borrowed a few of my favourite's from his site for your viewing pleasure...

Bravo Mr Shields, Coco hearts you.

In the bag...

I have just read that a woman is defined by what's in her handbag. This made me delve into my own and see if it was true. In some ways I agree when finding;
- my ipod; I can't live without music, especially when dealing with London's public transport system on a daily basis. Perhaps one day when I have my own driver (!) I won't need this one?
- my faithful sunglasses; I picked up these super-chic round specs about two years ago but round shapes are big for SS10 so I'm wearing them again
- lipstick; pretty much always wearing lipstick, this week it's Paul & Joe's deep red (love it)
- cigarettes; yes I know, so uncool but everyone is allowed one vice (I won't mention my other vices right now)
- vitamins; boring but necessary
So yes, these in a way do say something about me but do the bits of old tobacco, 3 hair grips, packet of tissues and a half eaten Snickers bar really define me? I sure hope not.

London Street Style

Apologies for my lack of posting followers but I have been rather busy. I will make up for it now by giving you some outfit inspiration in the form of those trendy guys and gals on the streets of east London. These photos were taken a couple of weeks ago when we had some sun!
Lets hear it for the boys: Well done to these guys for showing they are superior in the sartorial stakes.

Rolled trouser cuffs and tailoring were popular for the boys along with contemporary street wear giving a nod to the 80's.

Go girls: Top marks to these fabulous females for originality.

Vintage florals and feminine frills mixed with laid back, layering were popular among the ladies.
