Christian Dior Haute Couture AW12/13

The fashion world waited with baited breath this week to see Raf Simons' debut collection for fashion house Dior at Paris Couture Week and it appears I am not the only one who liked what they saw.

Amongst many well wishes from fashion's biggest names, Vogue.co.uk reported that Albar Elbez was quoted telling the Guardian, "Today was a beautiful marriage between a designer and a house."

The collection was a fantastic array of tuxedo detailing from lapels and tux pockets appearing on bustier dresses and gowns to the nipped waists and exaggerated hips on the cigarette pant trouser suits. The full skirts on the beautiful strapless gowns that sauntered down the floral-walled catwalk towards the end made me dream of going to my school prom again and the whole thing oozed Dior charm whilst bringing something fresh and new to the house.

After all the speculation of who would be the new designer at the infamous fashion house, I for one am glad that Simons got the job.

What did you think of the show?

Fashion Month: The round up

I am back from my little break in the sun (more on that later), and I am doing some much needed catch up on the runways from Milan and Paris.

I am not going to go in to deep coverage on each and every show (although I would love to), as pretty much everyone in the blogosphere will be churning out the same old reports and imagery right now and I'm sure you lovely readers will agree that the great thing about blogging is diversity. BUT, as a fashion stylist, writer and blogette it would be down-right disrespectful to not share my favourites at all. I have therefore decided to whittle down my favourite few looks from my favourite few shows. Narrowing down such a strong season was no easy task but here goes...

MILAN

1. Albino, 2. Bottega Venta, 3. Dolce & Gabbana, 4. Emilio Pucci,
5. Fendi, 6. Gucci, 7. Jil Sander, 8. MaxMara, 9. Moschino

PARIS

1. Alexander McQueen, 2. Louis Vuitton, 3. Chanel,  4. Ann Demeulemeester,
5. Paul & Joe, 6. Lanvin, 7. Balmain, 8. Christian Dior, 9. Gareth Pugh

PFW: Louis Vuitton

My favourite and only write up on Paris Fashion week this season is, Louis Vuitton.

The collection is grown-up and chic with strong fetish undertones with sheer fabrics, patent/pvc panelling, knee-high and over-the-knee boots and socks and those hats. With a slight militant twist to the collection it ticks all the boxes for my AW11/12 wish list and I LOVE the peter pan collars.

PLUS with Kate Moss closing the show and Paris Fashion Week whilst smoking on the runway, (her first show in three years) how could it not be my favourite show?
