Sunglasses and Fur

Don't you just love spring days when it's sunny enough to wear sunglasses but cool enough to wear a coat?

Postcards from NYC

Two weeks ago (yes this post is a little tardy), myself and The Boy took ourselves out of the real world for four days of serious walking combined with serious fun to a little placed called New York.

I went when I was 20 and absolutely fell head over heels for the place, the thing about New York and Manhattan in particular is that it is everything you expect it to be, it's just like it is in the movies. We stayed mid-town, meters off 5th Avenue (serious novelty vibe when you step out of your hotel to see the Empire State Building).

Here are some beautiful memories...

Stay tuned for more of my visual diary.

Longchamp's Spring 12 Campaign

Following on from my post about the Mulberry campaign for SS12 it seems that fashion is getting a little more light-hearted for spring this year. It appears that moody-models staring down the lens of the camera are being replaced with facial expression (heaven forbid), oversized props, interesting poses and silhouettes and even dogs!

On this note, it's only right that I share my love for Coco Rocha and Liisa Winkler skipping around Manhattan for Longchamp's spring campaign. In reality there's nothing in this campaign that we haven't seen before, it's not pushing the boundaries or being all that inventive but that doesn't mean it's not frightfully enjoyable to view great models running around a great city in aid of handbags, right?

Prabal Gurung SS12

Another triumph from the New York runways...Prabal Gurung's SS12 collection. Bold and feminine silhouettes, floral prints, geometric shapes and fetish undertones in latex, mesh and cut out detailing all featured as well as a strong colour palette of purple, black and white.

Divine.

Helmut Lang SS12

I'm pretty much in love with every inch of the monochromatic, asymmetric Helmut Lang SS12 collection. It's the first time husband and wife design duo, Nicole and Michael Colovos have shown their collection at HL on the runway and it didn't disappoint. No drama, no fuss, just cool, calm and chic- staying true to the philosophy of their past collections. Lots of draped jersey and lots of tees were balanced with cropped tux blazers and sharp trouser shapes. Colours were kept simple too with black and white being key and a splash of canary yellow added to brighten things up.
 Bravo.

Fashion Week Round Up: New York

Alexander Wang is the New York show I have decided to feature. It was a tough choice but once again Wang just manage to pip everyone else to the post in my book. In an opposite take to the luxe sportswear look we saw for SS10, the collection is tailored and very chic. The fit is skin tight for most and has bondage undertones with cut away sections and cross body panels. The colour palette was black, black and more black with splashes of dark red and camel, grey and dark green featuring. Texture is key to the collection with panelling, leather, velvet, studding/beading, ruching and macrame all featuring. My favourite piece of the collection was the camel cut out cape which is just beautiful.
