Girls In The Band

VOGUE JAPAN. JAN 2013. PHOTOGRAPHED BY SHARIF HAMZA. STYLED BY GIOVANNA BATTAGLIA.

Just a tiny bit in love with this editorial. I always wanted to be in a band. I got as far as playing the Double Bass in my teens which would have been pretty cool now had I not stopped when I started putting Bon Jovi posters up on my wall and smooching boys at the school disco.

Cover Guy

Hello lovely readers!

It's been a while hasn't it? Sorry about that but I have been having a ball in NYC and then been playing catch up with real life (man, I wish I had a time machine).

Anyhow, this weekend I will be posting all about my NYC antics with my lovely Boy (so nice to get away for an adventure together, it had been about three years!) so stay tuned for some photos taken on my new swanky camera.

In the meantime I couldn't help but share this great cover for iD's spring 2012 issue featuring the god that is Karl Largerfeld...

Vogue Japan: Keeping the faith

WOW.

This soot for Vogue Japan 2012 shot by Carlyne Cere De Dudzeele and styled by Sissy Vian is incredible. I love the styling, the hair, the lighting, the make-up...ok I basically love the lot. As anyone with a fashion eye can tell, about three tonnes of Versace has been used here whether it's current, vintage or their collection for H&M. Emilio Pucci and Balmain also feature amongst others. It's rather reminiscent of the PPQ SS12 show which I also fell in love with back in September.

I'm off to buy some ridiculous hair dye...

I'm also rather fond of the name of the story because it reminds me of the Jovi, who after 16 years, I'm still obsessed with.

What A Fantastic Man...

My blog is not usually a swoon-fest but I had to make an exception for this little wonder of an editorial.
When doing some research for a shoot last month I bought the March issue of my favourite men's fashion magazine, Fantastic Man and stumbled across this shoot.

It's pretty darn great. I love the dapper-chap styling mixed with his sleeve tattoos and stubble. A timeless editorial with modern and interesting undertones to mix things up and keep it fresh.

Excellent work.

Woo Woo for Jimmy Choo...

I'm styling a shoot for Random Magazine tomorrow so my flat was call-in crazy yesterday. Check out these bad ass shoes from Jimmy Choo. Outrageously incredible if only I could keep them!

A sneaky peak...

Yes readers, my favourite week is here, London Fashion Week. We had New York last week and now the fashion train has stopped in the capital. I will of course be doing a full round up of my favourite shows, designers, street style pics, celeb spots, etc etc but that's not what today is about.

As you may have read (see below post), I am now a full time stylist and style journalist so thought I'd share a couple of shots from a recent shoot I have styled, I'm not going to unveil them all you'll have to wait until my website is live but here is a sneaky peak. We shot on Hampsted Heath with a romantic, Wuthering Heights vibe...

Ready for my close up...

As you are aware if you are reading this I like to blog about fashion. What you may not know is that I blog as part of my day job too. I work in press & marketing for a leading womenswear highstreet brand. Through this I got the unique opportunity to write a piece about blogging and what it has done for fashion for leading monthly glossy...Company magazine. With this also came my opportunity to be in front of a camera rather than behind for a change. I was shot for the mag and here is the result, it's in the April issue and is out now so get your copy now!

Curls, Curves and Red Lipstick...

Whilst doing my usual of trawling through the web for something that grabs my attention, I came across some wonderful old illustrations...50's pin ups. There is something brilliantly cheeky about them. I love the femininity, power and ultra sexiness mixed with playfulness and subtle vulnerability. I also love that in this era a pin up was someone who not only looked great in their skimpy outfits but also someone who did house work or chores in their underwear along with looking great in their skimpy outfits. I guess that was a man's dream in those days...well it probably still is!

Any how the images are encapsulating and hugely inspiring. This look has been repeated in many a shoot and though she's not a personal icon, I couldn't help but include a shot POP magazine's shoot of Victoria Beckham inspired by the 50's pin up (circa 2004).

Following this theme I found this cover of POP magazine's SS06 issue featuring Sienna Miller.

A huge trend for having these illustrations as tattoos has emerged in recent years...

My style is not so inspired by this era, although it could be said that my current hair style is very reminiscent of the pinned back, quiffed look of the girls of the 50's.

Stoned...

Super model and uber hottie; Lara Stone, has graced the latest cover of Love magazine. She is gorge and I think I'm a teeny, tiny bit in 'LOVE'. The gap in her front teeth and her distinguished runway walk make her stand out from the oh-so-beautiful model crowd.

My Bike in Italian Vogue!!

Cast your minds back to sunny July, when bare legs and sandals were rife and I wrote the post 'On Yer Bike'. I told of my bike's Cinderella story from where I bought it on a back alley in East London and gave it the make over of it's life! The bike was then borrowed and used for a shoot. I was unsure if she would make the final cut but here she is...my bike in all it's shiny, glory featured in a shoot for Italian Vogue!! Photographed by Ellen von Unwerth in a very 'Rock 'n' Roll, Brit Girl' style my bike is the perfect accessory for the girl about East London, hurrah!

London's Latest Trend...

Apologies for the lack of posting, I moved house then to top it off caught swine flu! Not usually one to follow trends you can imagine my disappointment at my body forcing me to follow the latest thing to sweep the circuit of London! Glamour has been at it's optimum with hoodies and tracksuit bottoms as my uniform for the past week. Due to this, my outfit choices for the past three days back at work have been of the highest standard. Structured mini dresses, silk playsuits, bare legs and ankle boots being the look de jour. During the move I have lost the cable to my camera so I can't actually show you my inspiring ensembles (very annoying!).

Instead I thought I would share my favourite fashion shoot from the mags that I have been glued to whilst being stuck indoors.

Power Surge, Harper's Bazaar (UK), Sept 09
All about acid brights worn over tight fitting black. Hoods were used and make up and hair were slick. Black, heavy framed sunglasses were the key accessory. The looks screams 80's, New York with a strong silhouette and the season's key craze- bold shoulders.

An inspiring way to infuse grown-up, colour blocking into your winter wardrobe.
